Turkcell Among the First 15 Companies in Borsa Istanbul’s New Sustainability Index

Turkcell (NYSE:TKC) (BIST:TCELL), Turkey’s leading telecommunications and technology company, became one of the first 15 companies to have fulfilled the criteria for joining Borsa Istanbul’s recently launched Sustainability Index. Borsa Istanbul, which brings together all the exchanges operating in the Turkish capital markets under a single roof, had announced the launch of the sustainability index earlier this week.

The 15 companies to have made it to the index were analyzed for their sustainability credentials by independent international company EIRIS (Ethical Investment Research Services Limited). EIRIS studied the sustainability practices under several criteria, including environment, bio-diversity, climate change, human rights, supply chain, board practices, health, and security.

The index will be an important benchmark in measuring and evaluating the sustainability practices of Turkey’s publicly-traded companies. As the first example of its kind in the Turkish market, it will provide a useful tool for environmentally and socially responsible investment decisions. The index will also be a significant yardstick for companies to evaluate their own performance and set sustainability targets.

Turkcell’s socially responsible business approach validated by inclusion in the Index

“At Turkcell, we take corporate accountability, transparency, and sustainability issues very seriously. We constantly improve our record by assessing the environmental and social impact of our decisions, and by acting in a manner conducive to creating a better future for our broader ecosystem. I am certain that our investors will appreciate the value of our inclusion in Borsa Istanbul’s Sustainability Index, which confirms the validity of our socially- and environmentally-aware business approach.” said Sureyya Ciliv, Turkcell’s CEO.

A leader in sustainability reporting in Turkey, Turkcell is Turkey’s only company that is currently dual-listed on the NYSE and Borsa Istanbul. A signatory to the UN Global Compact since 2007, Turkcell has been sharing its sustainability performance transparently with a bi-annual report since 2009.
