Measuring ETF Flows

Unlike a Closed End Fund, an Exchange Traded Fund is constantly creating or destroying units based upon investor demand, thereby keeping prices very close to the underlying net asset value of the fund. Because of this dynamic, the flow of money into and out of ETFs can be measured by comparing the number of outstanding units between two periods of time.
