Constellation Announces 25 Community Champions Grant Recipients, Expands Program Reach

In celebration of Giving Tuesday, Constellation today named 25 new grant recipients through its Community Champions program and announced that the program is now open to residential customers in all states where the company does business. Constellation’s Community Champions allows residential electricity and natural gas supply customers to nominate a local project or cause for grant funding.

During the final grant cycle for 2014, Constellation is donating nearly $12,000 to community organizations in Maryland, New Jersey, Georgia and Texas focused on education, youth development and environmental projects. The next deadline for grant submissions is February 1, 2015.

“Constellation shares our customers’ dedication to giving back to their communities and is proud to support their efforts,” said Bruce Stewart, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Constellation. “Since the program launched one year ago, Constellation’s Community Champions program has awarded over $60,000 in funding to more than 135 projects nominated by our residential electricity and natural gas customers. We’re excited to expand the program to our residential customers across all the states we serve.”

Constellation customer Christopher Woods will use his $500 Community Champions grant to provide after-school music and literacy education programs to low-income students through the Artportunity Knocks program in Marietta, Ga.

“Our after-school programs empower youth through positive arts self-expression, education and service,” said Woods. “Constellation’s grant allows us to increase access for our community’s disadvantaged youth to quality music and art education that will help shape their futures.”

Hospice of the Chesapeake requested a grant to purchase wooden frames to present certificates of recognition to military veterans and their families. The $500 Community Champions grant will fund its “Honor Salute” program, though which U.S. Naval Academy midshipmen visit veterans in hospice care and honor their military service.

Other Constellation customers have used grants to support the relocation of part of the Appalachian Trail in Bear Mountain State Park and to purchase amplifying equipment for the Brazoswood Marching Band in Clute, Texas. A full list of grant recipients can be viewed here.

Customers are encouraged to go online to nominate their favorite local project or cause.
