BGE and Its Employees Support GiveCorps’ #GivingTuesday through Charitable Giving and Volunteer Events Across Maryland

In support of #GivingTuesday, the official opening of the giving season, Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) and its employees teamed up with GiveCorps, for the second year in a row, in an effort to make Baltimore the most generous city in America. #GivingTuesday is a nation-wide effort by GiveCorps to encourage charitable giving and volunteer efforts, in the spirit of the holiday season. BGE and parent company Exelon Corporation will match each and every monetary gift, dollar-for-dollar, that its employees make to various nonprofit organizations as part of #GivingTuesday.

In the spirit of #GivingTuesday, BGE employees spent the day donating their time and skills to various volunteer events, including an Engineering Forum at Green Street Academy and a volunteer project with Art With A Heart to complete a mosaic for a local public school. Several #GivingTuesday volunteer events were attended by employee volunteers from all of Exelon’s businesses, including ComEd in northern Illinois, PECO in southeastern Pennsylvania, Constellation and BGE in central Maryland, and Exelon Generation and Exelon Business Services Company in all three regions.

Since its founding nearly 200 years ago, BGE has played an integral role in working with Maryland communities to address economic development, public safety, civic issues and other initiatives that help enhance our neighborhoods. Through the use of shareholder dollars, BGE supports programs that deliver measurable and sustainable impact in areas of education, economic development, environment and arts and culture.

BGE’s corporate citizenship aligns with that of its parent company, Exelon Corporation. As part of Exelon’s merger in March 2012, Exelon and its subsidiaries have committed to maintain charitable giving of an average of $7 million per year in Maryland, including BGE’s service area, for the next 10 years.

Through BGE’s employee volunteer network, ‘Energy for the Community,’ BGE employees lend their time and passion to corporate citizenship activities. In 2014, BGE will contribute more than $3.7 million to charitable organizations and in support of more than 275 non-profit organizations across Central Maryland. To date, BGE employees have donated more than 21,000 volunteer hours to various organizations this year alone.
