Dr. Barry Goldberg Honored With The SuperSonic Imagine Achievement Award

Dr. Goldberg follows past recipients Dr. Mathias Fink, Dr. Peter Burns, Are You Dense Founder Dr. Nancy Cappello and cancer research philanthropist and past Paramount Pictures CEO Sherry Lansing who received the first award in 2010. The SuperSonic Imagine Achievement Award was created to recognize, honor and celebrate the outstanding contribution of time, leadership or financial support made by individuals, companies or associations, to advance cancer research and awareness.

Since 1977, Dr. Goldberg has been a Professor of Radiology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. The ultrasound division he established has become one of the largest ultrasound facilities in the world. As a director, he also played a central role in the establishment and development of the Thomas Jefferson Institute for Education and Research in Ultrasound, the leading educational institute in diagnostic ultrasound with 5,000 physicians and sonographers enrolled in courses in ultrasound every year in the USA and with 41 satellite facilities worldwide.

Dr. Goldberg has been the President of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, a global organization of ultrasound societies which has more than 50,000 members. He also served as President of the World Federation of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB). His extensive peer reviewed literature includes 96 book chapters and 313 papers. He has written and/or edited 29 books and has received 147 grants from government agencies, foundations and industry.

Dr. Goldberg has received numerous honorary professorships, memberships and fellowships around the world. He was named as a Fellow of the American College of Radiology, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound, the American Heart Association, the Council of Cardiovascular Radiology, and the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. He is one of the few recipients of the Outstanding Research Award and the Outstanding Educator Award granted by the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) for his research and educational achievements. Dr. Goldberg is the honoree and the recipient of the highest award, the Antoine Beclere Medal, granted to him by the International Society of Radiology for his contributions to the advancement of International Radiology. He founded the website SonoWorld, a leading ultrasound information and education resource.
