PECO Employees Organize More Than 40 Community Service Projects to Celebrate National Volunteer Week

Employees from across PECO are celebrating National Volunteer Week (April 12-18) by participating in more than 40 employee-led service projects throughout the Greater Philadelphia area. These projects include cleaning up parks and other public spaces, serving meals to people struggling with poverty and helping rebuild homes.

“We are committed to giving back to the communities we serve, not just during National Volunteer Week, but every day of the year,” said Craig L. Adams, PECO president and CEO. “I am proud that our employees have again come together to help our customers and communities grow and prosper.”

Examples of PECO’s National Volunteer Week projects include:

  • April 13 (Philadelphia) – Landscaping and beautifying the grounds of the Free Library of Philadelphia’s Parkway Central Library
  • April 14 (Doylestown, Pa.) – Cleaning up soccer fields, landscaping and helping construct new performance stage at Central Park
  • April 15 (King of Prussia, Pa.) – Packing 7,000 meal kits to stock local food pantries for United Way’s UNITED2FEED initiative
  • April 16 (Philadelphia) – Improving trails and reinforcing a storm water management system with Schuylkill River Development Corporation
  • April 17 (West Chester, Pa.) – Removing invasive plants and introducing native plants at Stroud Preserve with Natural Lands Trust
  • April 17 (Yeadon, Pa.) Painting and landscaping to help beautify the Yeadon Public Library

National Volunteer Week is an annual, nationwide celebration of people working to improve their communities through volunteer service. For the ninth consecutive year, PECO employees are organizing community service projects for more than 700 employees, family members and friends to participate in throughout April.

PECO and its parent company Exelon recognize National Volunteer Week by empowering employee volunteers to design their service projects and recruit others to participate. This year, employees across Exelon will participate in more than 150 community service projects in April. Projects will focus on education, environmental stewardship, diversity and inclusion, and community enrichment.

In addition to PECO, National Volunteer Week will include employee-led service projects from across the Exelon family of companies including: ComEd in Illinois, Constellation and BGE in Maryland, and Exelon Generation and Exelon Business Services Company in the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and Texas.

PECO is one of the Greater Philadelphia region’s most active corporate citizens, providing more than $5 million in grant support annually to hundreds of educational, environmental, arts and culture, and community develop organizations. Through PECO’s Energy for the Community corporate citizenship program, PECO employees gave more than 14,000 hours of time and talent as board members, coaches and volunteers to support community nonprofit organizations in 2014.
