Lancaster DJ Eric Godfrey has offered new programs to help couples to deal with the high costs of wedding receptions. According to costofwedding.com the cost of a wedding is in excess of $27,000 in the Pennsylvania area. Godfrey has been performing DJ services for special events and wedding couples since the early 80s. Godfrey is originally from Hanover Pennsylvania and performed at his first wedding there in 1982 when he was only 16 years old. He expects to perform his 2,000th wedding sometime in 2016. We caught up with Godfrey to get more information on what his new programs are to help brides and grooms.
Godfrey stated, “… After running a very large DJ company for the last 15 years in Arizona, we moved back to Pennsylvania to be closer to family and I honestly intended to retire from the DJ business. However, I performed one event for a friend and it made me realize how much I missed working with couples, playing music and helping people.”
Godfrey explained in talking to couples, he realized that more people than he originally thought are struggling with trying to pay the high cost of weddings. While the average wedding nationwide is over $26,000 nearly half of the couple’s keep their budget under $10,000 out of necessity. He urges couples to use sites like WeddingWire.com and theknot.com to check the reviews of their vendors to make sure they’re actually hiring reputable professionals and not people who do not give events the attention they deserve. There are many reputable companies that offer very affordable pricing and couples can have an awesome wedding with professional vendors for within that $10,000 number. He mentioned the key to this is finding affordable venue and/or catering as they typically represent about half of the cost of an event.
While all of this is very helpful to couples we asked Godfrey how his company All Party Starz is helping them in order to save money. He stated, “We were fortunate enough in our first year here to get just enough weddings and enough reviews to get the WeddingWire Couples Choice Award, however, we just barely did enough events to qualify. Realizing that we are an unknown entity to most of the couple in this area, we’ve set prices to our lowest levels offered in years. We asked Godfrey if he had any further advice for couples that are getting married. He offered these items:
1. Meet your vendors to make sure you like them and what they have to offer.
2. Ask for documentation of the business being registered and having insurance. This small step usually assures you are getting professional vendors.
3. Get contracts from all of your vendors and have a clear understanding of what they are providing.
4. Ask for testimonials reviews from third party sites like Wedding Wire. Check their references.
5. Use cost of wedding.com and other sites to make a realistic budget and if you have to go off your budget in one area try to adjust in another. You want to have a great party but you do not want to mortgage your future.
