Anthony “Amp” Elmore is a 5 time world Karate/Kickboxing champion who lives in Memphis, TN.  Elmore is asking the country of Kenya to be the 1st African Country to honor African Americans with a “Formal State Reception” in Nairobi Kenya July of 2018.”  Elmore’s goal is to personally meet with Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta to ask the Kenya President to visit Memphis, Tennessee to honor the legacies of both Dr. Martin Luther King and Kenyan hero Tom Mboya; “Formally” inviting African Americans home to mother Africa.   African/Americans have never been formally invited to visit any African country whereas millions of Africans were forced to leave Africa as Slaves over 400 years ago. Elmore notes that Memphis was the “Slave Capital & Cotton capital of the world where our King was killed.” Dr. Martin Luther King mentions “Nairobi, Kenya” in his last speech in Memphis. The Cotton Trade is what gave America its wealth to be the most powerful nation in the world.

Elmore traveled to Kenya in 1990 to premier his independently produced film “The Contemporary Gladiator.”  Elmore had a life changing experience in Kenya similar to that of President Obama.  Elmore met ancestral spirits who inspired him to dedicate his life to connecting African Americans to visit Africa to begin to heal the wounds of slavery and colonization had on both Africans and African Americans. One of Elmore’s friend and strongest supporter  is Memphis Congressman Steve Cohen who introduced and got legislation passed whereas America apologized for slavery.  Congressman Cohen acknowledged Elmore’s work on the floor of Congress in 2009. In June of 2014 the Congressman helped to sponsor a “Kickoff Rally at Elmore’s home where the public was invited.

During a 1990 Safari Elmore felt connected to the spirit of one of Africa’s greatest heroes, Kenyan Tom Mboya. Tom Mboya was a 26 year old Kenyan while unknown to most Americans Mboya made the greatest   impact on American culture and history than any African in modern history.  Tom Mboya came to America in 1956 at the age of 26. Mboya’s impact effects everyone in America because of Mboya we have American President Barack Obama.

Mboya friend White businessman by the name of William X Scheinman organized a group called the “African American Student Foundation” whereas the group raised money to bring Kenyan students to America.  Baseball great Jackie Robinson, Singer Harry Bellefonte, Actor Sidney Pointer helped to raise the initial $39,000 to bring Kenyan students to America.  The Kennedy Foundation later gave $100,000.  From 1957 until his death Dr. Martin Luther King was a member of an organization called the”American Committee on Africa.” In 1959 this group arranged a six week tour for Tom Mboya a Trade Unionist to speak in America. Also in 1959 a 23 year old Barack Obama Sr. arrived in Hawaii. Thurgood Marshall who later became America’s 1st Black Supreme court justice accompanied Mboya to London in 1963 to draft Kenya’s Constitution.

Elmore wrote a song called the “Spirit Tom Mboya Kenya Unity Song”.  This song is a cultural pathway that connects Kenya with America.  Both Dr. Martin Luther King and Tom Mboya spoke at civil rights rally in Washington D.C. in 1959.  The “Safari Initiative” re-connects both the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King and Tom Mboya. Elmore wants a Mboya/King museum built in Kenya. The Safari Initiative picks up the Gauntlet of Dr. King in Memphis  & brings the Gauntlet to Nairobi, Kenya whereas Africans, African/Americans and the world will celebrate Africans in America formal return to Africa. The Mboya/King museum should be for the world to visit.

Elmore has a deep connection to Kenya.  Elmore married a Kenyan woman and adopted a Kenyan daughter.  While he is no longer married to the Kenyan they both have a 16 year son Anthony “Amp” Elmore Jr. who is 1/2 Kenyan like President Obama. Elmore introduced Kickboxing to Kenya, met Kenyan President Daniel Arap Moi in 1992 and the 1st to bring African Americans on a Kenya Safari.

In May of 2013 Elmore traveled to Kenya and met with and gained the support of President Obama’s Grand Mother Sarah Obama who explained to Elmore that she was also his Grandmother.  Elmore met with 5 Kenyan Governors one of which is the Governor of Nairobi and the Son-in-law of Tom Mboya Dr. Evans Kidero. Governor Kidero loved the idea and promised to introduce Elmore to Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta.  In 2004 Elmore got Kenya honored in Memphis annual Africa in April celebration where then Kenya Minister of Tourism Najib Balala came to Memphis.  Minister Balala and Elmore friend is a Kenya cabinet minster.  Elmore has met many challenges trying to make the Safari Initiative happen in Kenya since 2009.   President Obama visits Kenya in July of 2015.  Kenya because of the Obama connection is the starting point where African/Americans can formally return to their Ancestral land of Africa with President Obama as the leader.  Anthony “Amp” Elmore represents the “Spirit of Tom Mboya” who started “Airlift America” the Safari Initiative that brings Americans to Africa is “Airlift Africa.”
