WFP Law to Support Little Girl with Big Story

Fort Lauderdale, Florida , United States - November 9, 2015 /PressCable/

Estate planning law firm Wild, Felice & Partners P.A. is sponsoring 7-year old Kayla Mills in this year’s Third Annual Miss ARC Broward Pageant. The Pageant, being held at the Parker Playhouse on November 15, focuses on empowering young women with disabilities.

Kayla is a very special young girl with an amazing story. Kayla has a very rare genetic disorder called Autoimmune Polyglandular Syndrome Type 1 (APS1). In fact, this disorder is so rare that Kayla is only the 29th individual in the United States documented with the disorder and the 6th individual that has been documented to have the autoimmune lung involvement. Not much is known about this disorder, which is why Kayla’s case is helping to write history. APS1 is causes Kayla’s body to attack her own organs and endocrine glands.

Kayla also suffers from a Primary Immune Deficiency, Selective Antibody Deficiency, Autoimmune Bronchitis, Autoimmune Hepatitis, Bronchiectasis, Asthma, Iron Deficiency Anemia, Growth Hormone Deficiency, Chronic Pseudomonas Pneumonia, Hypoparathyroidism, Chronic Mucocutaneous Candidiasis, Sjogrens Syndrome, Ectodermal dystrophy and Enamel Hypoplasia. Kayla may also have to face additional diseases in the near future as she grows into an adult, such as Type 1 diabetes, Addison’s Disease, Infertility, and secondary cancers. For now, Kayla is on experimental immunosuppression treatment, and is being researched at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda MD.

Despite spending her days getting treatments at the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, having to take numerous medications and undergo lung treatments daily, Kayla maintains a positive attitude and has an immense appreciation and love for life. Wild, Felice & Partners is proud to sponsor such a strong, determined and beautiful young woman this year.

Kayla’s situation is a reminder of the importance of choosing the proper estate plan. In situation’s such as Kayla’s, a special needs trust would be ideal. A special needs trust is designed for beneficiaries with disabilities and will provide benefits far beyond a traditional trust. Some of these benefits include both supplemental security income and subsidized housing. For more information on special needs trust or estate planning in general, please contact managing attorney Michael Wild at 954-944-2855.
