Aetna Offering Individual Products under Accountable Care Agreements with PinnacleHealth and Valley Preferred

Aetna (NYSE: AET) has begun offering individual health plans built around its accountable care arrangements with PinnacleHealth System and Valley Preferred, a preferred provider organization affiliated with Lehigh Valley Health Network.

These are two separate health plans with coverage that takes effect Jan. 1, 2016 and are being offered to individuals both on and off the health care exchange. Aetna Whole Health™ - PinnacleHealth is offered in the Harrisburg area, and Aetna Whole Health™ - Valley Preferred is offered in the Lehigh Valley area.

The plans will use PinnacleHealth’s and Valley Preferred’s comprehensive, integrated system of physicians, hospitals and ambulatory services to:

  • Create a more coordinated patient experience;
  • Save members money when they use providers aligned with PinnacleHealth or Valley Preferred; and
  • Improve health care outcomes.

The plans provide enhanced benefits when members receive care from providers at PinnacleHealth or Valley Preferred. They are priced to be among the most affordable options available on or off the health care exchange.

Aetna has been offering plans linked to the two accountable care arrangements to employer groups. The agreements feature a new payment model that rewards physicians for meeting certain measures designed to improve quality, lower costs and improve patient satisfaction.

“Aetna is very excited to provide high-quality, affordable options to individuals. These new plans offer consumers access to a more coordinated health care experience through our accountable care collaborations with PinnacleHealth and Valley Preferred ,” said Laurie Brubaker, president of Aetna’s operations in Pennsylvania, Delaware and West Virginia.

Aetna provides health benefits to more than 1.6 million members in Pennsylvania.
