Northern Trust Strengthens Commitment to Houston Market with Team Expansion

As the bank celebrates 25 years in Houston, the additions of Brian J. Thomas, Martha Voss, Chad N. Lyons, John T. Jacobi and J. Adam Brennen demonstrate the firm’s continued commitment to this important market for growth.

The Northern Trust team in Houston provides goals-driven wealth management to prominent local individuals, families and institutions. “Northern Trust is proud to celebrate 25 years in Houston. During its 25 year history in Houston, Northern Trust has seen meaningful growth, with local assets under management and custody growing to more than $6.1 billion. In that time, the bank has expanded to include two locations in Houston’s River Oaks and Tanglewood neighborhoods employing nearly 100 Houstonians, including 19 hired since the beginning of 2015. About Northern Trust’s New Team Members in Houston

Martha Voss is senior vice president and senior lender and banking practice leader. In this role, she is responsible for growing the lending and depository practice in both Houston and Austin. Voss’ responsibilities include enhancing client relationships by advising on the use of leverage in their wealth strategy. She is also responsible for maintaining the quality of the credit risk portfolio that is so important to Northern Trust’s strong credit culture. Prior to joining Northern Trust, Voss held a variety of management positions for more than 33 years at JPMorgan Chase Bank and its predecessors. She spent the majority of her career in private and commercial banking in Houston, bringing significant experience in business development, credit and corporate strategy. Voss earned both her MBA and Bachelor of Business Administration degrees from The University of Texas at Austin. She serves on the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross Houston.

Brian J. Thomas, CFA is a senior wealth strategist. In this role, he works with individuals and families to identify how Northern Trust’s investment and wealth management capabilities can help achieve their overall financial goals. Thomas brings more than 15 years of investment experience. Prior to joining Northern Trust, he spent nearly 14 years with JPMorgan in San Francisco, St. Louis, Chicago and most recently, as Managing Director of JPMorgan Private Bank in Houston. He earned his MBA with a concentration in finance from Cornell University, where he was a Park Leadership Fellow. Thomas earned his Bachelor of Science degree with honors in accounting from Indiana University. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Houston Symphony, Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas and the Children’s Museum of Houston.

Chad N. Lyons is vice president and banking relationship advisor. In this capacity, he coordinates a team of seasoned professionals to meet the financial and lending needs of wealthy individuals, families and corporations. Prior to joining Northern Trust, Lyons was in oil and gas banking at Scotiabank where he primarily worked with both investment grade and non-investment grade corporate oil and gas customers providing them with a variety of lending solutions. Lyons earned his MBA from The University of St. Thomas’ Cameron School of Business and his Bachelor of Arts degree in geological sciences from the Jackson School of Geosciences at The University of Texas at Austin. He is an active member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, CanCare, Inc., and the Gulf Coast Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

John Jacobi, CFA is vice president and portfolio manager. In this role, Jacobi is responsible for working with affluent clients to design and implement customized investment strategies and asset allocation policies. He has over 8 years of investment management experience, with a focus on fundamental and quantitative investing, asset allocation, equity and fixed income securities. Prior to joining Northern Trust, Jacobi was Vice President and Portfolio Manager at Capital One Asset Management, where he served as co-manager on several equity strategies and managed portfolios for high net worth and institutional clients. Jacobi earned his Bachelor of Science degree in finance from the E.J. Ourso College of Business at Louisiana State University, with concentrations in investments and internal auditing. He is an active member of the CFA Society of Houston.

J. Adam Brennen, CFP, CPWA, CWS is vice president and senior client advisor. In this role, Brennen collaborates with wealthy individuals and their families in comprehensive wealth planning that includes investment management, trust and asset servicing and multi-generational advisory practices. Prior to joining Northern Trust, he spent more than 10 years working at Amegy Bank. Brennen earned his MBA from Texas Tech University and his Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from Abilene Christian University. He graduated Summa Cum Laude and was a University Scholar. Brennen regularly lectures on financial topics at the University of Houston, The University of Texas Medical School, Baylor College of Medicine and Abilene Christian University.
