HAMPTON ROADS, Va. - May 4, 2016 - PRLog -- A new trio of electrified vehicles will soon hit the road courtesy of the Honda brand.
Honda has announced that the forthcoming 2017 Honda Clarity Fuel Cell-scheduled to be released to U.S. dealerships sometime in late 2016-will be joined by two siblings: the Honda Clarity Electric and the Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid.
These two additional models will be built on the same platform that underpins the Clarity Fuel Cell, which will make the Clarity the very first automobile in the automotive industry to feature fuel cell, electric, and plug-in hybrid technology all on one model platform.
Electric Siblings
Thanks to the new Clarity sisters, Honda drivers will now have a broader assortment of electrified models to choose from as they shop for new vehicles.
The Clarity Electric is slated to become available for purchase in 2017, followed by the Clarity Plug-in Hybrid, which will hit dealerships in all 50 states later on in the year.
All three members of the Clarity family will feature roomy seating for five passengers, an array of high-end amenities, and various cutting-edge technology offerings. Eco-friendly materials will also be used in the design.
The First to Emerge
The Clarity Fuel Cell, the first of the three models scheduled to debut, is being touted by Honda as the most technologically advanced automobile the company has ever released.
Deliveries of the Clarity Fuel Cell will begin in late 2016 to consumers in certain California markets.
The Clarity Fuel Cell boasts innovations that include a fuel cell stack that is 33% more compact than its precursor, also offering a 60% bump in power density over the exiting Honda FCX Clarity. The fuel cell and powertrain-taking up about as much space as a V6 engine-are able to fit completely under the car's hood, which enables the five-passenger seating and roomier interior.
The approximated driving range for the Clarity Fuel Cell will be more than 300 miles, and its refueling time is projected to be about three to five minutes-similar to the amount of time it takes to fill up a gas-powered car.
