“America’s Next Top Restaurant Franchise” Winner Arooga’s Grille House & Sports Bar Employs NCR Technology to Grow, Simplify Operations

With plans to expand his growing sports bar chain along the East Coast, Arooga’s Grille House & Sports Bar co-founder and President, Gary Huether, Jr. realized he needed a robust restaurant technology solution on which franchisees could rely to simplify operations.

After winning “American’s Next Top Restaurant Franchise” competition in 2010, Huether selected NCR Aloha as the technology platform for his growing franchise.

“We strive to replicate the Arooga’s experience from location to location, and you can’t do that with a system constantly crashing, undergoing unexpected maintenance, or down time,” Huether said. “NCR has a reputation for stability, so we decided to implement its solution,” he added.

Since implementation, Huether reports a simpler managerial experience. As each Arooga’s location uses NCR Aloha, all real-time data lives in one central database for convenient access. This provides Huether a high-level summary of restaurant and live performance with the opportunity to analyze operations at a more granular level right on his mobile phone.

“NCR Aloha allows me to manage necessary functions without physically needing to be in the restaurant locations,” Huether said. “Now, I can quickly check on performance while real-time alerts allow me to explore anomalies in the system.”

As an example, NCR Aloha’s loss prevention capability notifies Arooga’s Corporate Management Team of suspicious activity such as excessive or exorbitant discounts, unusual gratuity, and other possible areas for concern.

In addition to simplifying operations, Huether states that integration with developing technologies has been convenient and flexible.

Recently, Arooga’s requested that NCR integrate the Aloha software with Buzztime’s trivia tablets to combine Aloha’s table ordering and payment with the engagement of on-table games. Preliminary testing has resulted in higher ticket values and tip averages compared to tables without the technology. Additionally, NCR has been working to integrate mobile ordering, mobile payment, and customer surveys into our soon to be released mobile app.

“NCR lives on the forefront of innovation and integration, which means our customers receive the new technologies needed to remain competitive in their space,” said Paul Langenbahn, president, NCR Hospitality. Langenbahn continued, saying, “Since 2008, we’ve enjoyed a thriving partnership with Arooga’s, and we stay close to franchisors, like Mr. Huether, to ensure our partnership helps them meet and exceed their growth and operational goals.”
