NGCodec® joins the ORIGAMI® Ecosystem™ to deliver state of the art H.265/HEVC video codec solutions

By: PRLog
The Origami Ecosystem consists of a range of FPGA hardware modules together with pre-validated IP cores, tools and design services focused on the professional audio video markets.
SUNNYVALE, Calif. - July 27, 2016 - PRLog -- NGCodec has joined the Origami Ecosystem, a growing network of 14 market leaders, to deliver its H.265/HEVC video codec technology. NGCodec H.265/HEVC video encoder is optimized for low latency and low bit rates and can support two 1080p30 channels or one 1080p60 channel on the Origami B20 board. NGCodec will sell the Origami B20 board with its H.265/HEVC codec IP pre-loaded directly to OEMs in 4Q2016.

"Image Matters and NGCodec share the same vision on the future of video systems and electronics," said Oliver Gunasekara, CEO and co-founder NGCodec. "We believe that to achieve greater innovation with limited resources, agility is key. That is why FPGA technology will take precedence over ASIC, why modular architecture is necessary to answer the needs of a fast changing world, and why we need a strong ecosystem to link every step of a new design. This is precisely where Image Matters' modules and the Origami ecosystem bring such a compelling offer."

The choice of FPGA technology to build new systems over ASIC technology is following the same reasoning as the Origami ecosystem: agility. FPGA implementations offer practical solutions within the same performance ballpark as ASIC, but with much more flexibility. The B20 module based on the Xilinx® Kintex® Ultrascale™ 060 has been engineered to be scalable: by combining multiple modules you can achieve 4K with NGCodec's H.265/HEVC compression codec. The customer designs a carrier board which exposes the IOs and host processor for their application.

"NGCodec's philosophy behind its H.265/HEVC IP-Cores fits perfectly in the Origami Ecosystem objectives," said Jean-François Nivart, CEO of Image Matters. "NGCodec focuses on the highest image quality and compression efficiency in H.265/HEVC on FPGA while they rely on Origami to provide a straightforward platform supporting their path to market. What's more, this startup has taken on the challenge of becoming a market leader in their own field and as such has made tremendous achievements with HEVC technology."
