Nebraska’s Secretary of State Online Filings Reflect Consistent, Impressive Increases

The Secretary of State’s online reporting of annual/biennial filings has reflected consistent and impressive increases over the last four years. Online access allows businesses in Nebraska to remain in good standing from any device, anywhere the Internet allows.

Evidence of the increase by Nebraska Limited Liability Corporations (LLC), Limited Liability Partnerships (LLP), and Nonprofit Corporations is reflected in the transaction volume across the last two reporting cycles. With the increase in online adoption, the Secretary of State’s office can avoid costs with the reduced need for staff handling, editing and mailing documents, validating data, and filing. In years prior, companies were required to file in person or through the mail. Online Nonprofit Corporations transactions reflect a 42 percent growth. Nebraskan LLC/LLP are recording staggering increases from 12,500 to 42,000 online filings in two reporting cycles capturing 41 percent of the total in the state. In the paper process, the exchange of information, documentation, and data entry is estimated at 15 minutes per report at a minimum. By using the online renewal, 1,912.50 hours were saved by the Secretary of State’s office as businesses renew online instead of using the paper process.

Iterations of the applications have been enhanced on an ongoing basis across the last several years with updates to provide easier navigation through the process flow and streamline the user experience. “Our long-term partnership with the Secretary of State’s office is crucial to produce effective and efficient online services,” said Brent Hoffman, General Manager of Nebraska Interactive. “We create citizen-centric applications every day for the state and are enthusiastic to support the Governor’s efforts to make business easier in Nebraska. That’s what we are all about.”
