Fall Protection Distributors is offering roofing professionals and contractors the Standing Seam Roof Anchor line, a series of products designed to prevent falls while working on fastener-type roof systems. According to the firm, these life-saving devices can handle 14,500 pounds of load, which is nearly three times the required capacity of safety regulators.

Each Standing Seam Roof Anchor retails for $199 and can be ordered online. Packages are also available, such as the four-piece set with nylon-tip screws and a torque wrench, which is currently sold at $869. Individual attachments and accessories can also be purchased at the company’s online store.

The strength of the company’s anchor was recently subjected to a break test at an ISO-certified independent testing facility to determine the maximum stress it can withstand before it fails. The device was able to withstand a pull with 14,500 pounds of strength before the top bolts sheared, while leaving the main anchor undamaged.

“There is nothing else out there in the industry that has those kinds of numbers,” a company spokesperson said.

Despite its durability, the aluminum device is lightweight at 4.5 pounds. It also has a low profile that helps minimize the risk of someone tripping over it, which is a common form of injury.

Furthermore, the product was designed to fit over 500 standing seam panel profiles, which means that no reassembly is needed when working with different roof designs.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics recorded the highest number of cases of fatal work injuries in 2019 at 5,333. Out of that figure, 880 cases were attributed to falls and slips.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) had stated that employers must ensure that their workplaces must be set up in a way that prevents employees from falling from overhead platforms. The agency requires fall protection to be provided for elevations of six feet in construction-related industries.

OSHA recommended the use of a number of fall protection devices, such as lines and harnesses, and indicated the required load capacity of each type of device. For anchorages, it stated that they must be capable of supporting at least 5,000 pounds per personnel.
