Over the past few years, sports teams around the world have been going digital, creating fan clubs, NFTs, and other online engagement options that help fans to connect with their favorite teams. A new partnership launched by Atlético de Madrid, WhaleFin, and the physical-fitness-based web3 app STEPN, is now producing a never before seen asset, football boot NFTs, as revealed in Chiliz News’ latest report.

While the majority of NFTs launched by sports teams are collectible items, the new football boots from Atlético de Madrid will also serve a functional purpose when used with the STEPN app. The recently released report explains that the new NFT collection will allow fans to access in-game rewards when walking, jogging, or running with the STEPN app, as well as granting them access to the football club’s signed jerseys and VIP experience.

Known as the Genesis Collection, the football boot NFTs will be released in several stages, beginning with 180 unique sneakers. When completed, the entire collection will include 1,001 hand-drawn NFT sneakers that showcase the 119-year history of the famous Spanish football club.

The new report from Chiliz News includes a breakdown of the collection explaining the 3 different rarity levels of the NFTs, how many of each rarity will be released at a time, and how they can be used with the STEPN app. While each football boot will have a unique design, it will be focused on showcasing trophies, stadiums, players, and other highlights of Atlético de Madrid.

Walking, jogging, or running with the football boots equipped in the STEPN app will grant players access to a future giveaway of 11 signed football shirts and the exclusive Madrid fan experience. While the club has not released many details about the fan experience yet, the report suggests that it will include two tickets to watch a live football match at Cívitas Metropolitano stadium.

When the NFTs are released, they will be available through WhaleFin, the Amber Groups digital asset platform, the report notes.
