Vietnam - November 3, 2022

On February 15, Vietnam officially lifted the restriction on destinations and international flights, creating a premise to open the door to tourism.

Vietnam's tourism is an economic sector with strong spillover effects, accounting for nearly 10% of the GDP and creating jobs for about 1.3 million people. Therefore, as soon as the full vaccination rate reaches almost 90% for people over 18 years old and is one of the countries with the highest vaccination rate worldwide, Vietnam decided to revive the tourism industry to contribute to economic recovery. International visitors to Vietnam do not have to register according to tours and routes but only need to fully meet the Ministry of Health's regulations on vaccination against Covid-19.

Despite the damage caused by the Covid-19 century's pandemic, which had eroded resources for more than 2 years, the announcement from the Government awakened the entire ecosystem of the tourism industry. Businesses and localities were eager to get up quickly with many plans:

  • Designing and implementing a series of new tours and routes.
  • Retraining staff and repairing infrastructure.
  • Cooperation with foreign partners.
  • Spending millions of dollars.

The national airline, Vietnam Airlines, resumed regular international flights to and from 15 countries and territories. Bamboo Airways opened nearly 40 international routes to key markets in Vietnam. Vietjet Air announced the reopening and increased frequency of the routes.

Sun Group, Vietnam's leading tourism developer, launched many new products in many key tourist destinations. Vinpearl put into operation 45 facilities, including 36 hotels and resorts with a capacity of over 18,500 hotel rooms and villas; 3 theme parks and 2 amusement parks; 2 conservation and care parks for semi-wild animals; 4 golf courses, spas, and conference and culinary centers.

According to the General Statistics Office report, in 10 months of 2022, international visitors to Vietnam reached more than 2.35 million arrivals, 18.8 times higher than in 2021. Particularly in October 2022, the number of International tourists reached 484,400 arrivals, up 12.1% compared to September 2022 and 45.9 times higher than the same period in 2021.

Singapore's The Business Times on August 23, citing the latest report of Fitch Solutions, said that Vietnam's tourism sector is expected to reach a revenue of 11.1 billion USD by 2024. The famous American magazine, Condé Nast Traveler, voted Vietnam as one of the top 10 tourism trends destinations in 2022.

The State of Vietnam considers tourism a spearhead economic sector through Vietnam's diverse and rich tourism potential.
