Accreditation gives organizations a cost-effective way to assess themselves against globally renowned healthcare standards. At the end of the process, leaders will know their organization's strengths and the improvements they could make to its services’ quality, safety, and efficiency, explains Accreditation Canada.
As the primer relates, at the beginning of accreditation, organization leaders will receive standards suited to their services or programs to put into practice. The organization will be regularly evaluated to determine if it is meeting the standards; if it is not, the accreditors will determine if the organization has time to make new processes, policies, or procedures, or improve existing ones.
When the organization has completed the accreditation program, the quality and safety of its client care will have been improved - or at the very least, the organization will know how it should go about making improvements. It will also be able to make better use of its resources and encourage enhanced healthcare results.
In addition to its primer on accreditation preparation, Accreditation Canada offers a downloadable, interactive worksheet to help health service organizations choose an accrediting body. The worksheet walks readers through the process of finding an accreditor that is best suited for their needs and that will provide the best value.
