KBRA Releases CREFC Day 1 & Day 2 Recap

Kroll Bond Rating Agency (KBRA) releases its CREFC Day 1 & Day 2 Recap.

CREFC’s 22nd annual January conference started on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, albeit in an all-digital format due to the ongoing global pandemic. Whereas last year’s Miami conference drew close to 2,000 commercial real estate professionals, roughly 3,500 registered attendees and panelists assembled virtually. The Day 1 virtual sessions consisted of closed sessions by various CREFC forums.

CREFC’s Executive Director, Lisa Pendergast, commenced Day 2 of the conference with some thoughts about the state of the CRE industry, the year ahead, and the many important contributions that CREFC made to the industry in 2020 and will continue to make in 2021 and beyond.

Following her opening remarks, the Industry Leaders Roundtable led off with 16 industry experts participating in the discussion. The roundtable was followed by Property Perspectives: Examining the Fundamentals. Five panelists participated including KBRA’s Keith Kockenmeister, Senior Managing Director, Co-Head CMBS Ratings. In addition, property fundamentals were also reviewed from a landlord’s perspective in the session, Landlord Perspectives: Examining the Fundamentals. The keynote speaker for the day was author Michael Lewis.

The last open session of the day, Weaving Gold from Straw: Fundamentals of Distressed Commercial Mortgage Debt discussed various aspects of distressed debt. It was followed by a High Yield and Distressed Realty Assets Forum that was a closed forum session and concluded the second day’s panels.

Please look for our summary of today’s third and final day of the conference on Monday.
