—Immediate and long-term relief directed to Central Texas communities—
In support of our fellow Texans impacted by the recent devastating flooding in Central Texas, NRG (NYSE: NRG) and Reliant today announced an initial commitment of $500,000 for disaster relief. This funding aims to provide both immediate and long-term support for overall recovery efforts, first responders, and related mental health needs. NRG and Reliant’s commitment includes direct funding for the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund and Central Texas Community Foundation, as well as customer assistance across impacted counties; triple matching for all eligible employee donations supporting flood recovery efforts; and support for impacted employees through the NRG Employee Relief Fund.
“This is an unimaginable tragedy for so many, and our hearts go out to the families and communities impacted by the devastating floods,” said Mark Parsons, senior vice president and head of Texas Energy, NRG. “We want to express our gratitude and commend the heroic efforts of local first responders. Texas is home for us, and we stand with all our neighbors during this time of need. As recovery efforts continue, we’re working with local agencies, governments, and nonprofits to ensure our support is directed where it’s needed most – both now and in the hard months to come. We know recovery will be an ongoing effort, and we’ll be with the community every step of the way.”
Assistance for Impacted Customers
NRG is assisting its customers facing hardships following the flooding by:
- Providing need-based hardship assistance to eligible customers
- Waiving late fees
- Increasing funding for Reliant’s CARE program
Reliant’s CARE (Community Assistance by Reliant Energy) program provides bill pay assistance through social service agencies, including Catholic Charities of Central Texas, Travis County Health & Human Services, and Concho Valley Community Action Agency, among others. For anyone who needs assistance or information on these programs, contact 2-1-1 within Texas or visit 211texas.org.
NRG’s retail electricity providers are also offering voluntary payment extensions and deferred payment plans to customers in counties impacted by the flooding. Deferred payment plans allow customers to pay their balances due in installments, rather than all at once.
