Dollar General Receives Distinguished Service Award from MOAA

The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) will present to Dollar General its 2011 Distinguished Service Award for outstanding support for service members and their families. Dollar General will accept the honor at a special ceremony tonight at the Cannon House Office Building.

“Dollar General is extremely honored and proud to receive this prestigious award,” said Bob Ravener, Executive Vice President, Chief People Officer, and US Navy veteran. “Our company's mission is to serve others and many of our employees and customers exemplify this spirit by making sacrifices through their service to our nation in the armed forces. We consider it both a privilege and duty to recognize these brave men and women and their families.”

MOAA is a 370,000-member organization which recognizes leaders, organizations and employers annually for their support of the military and veterans issues. Dollar General is the only for-profit employer to be so recognized in 2011. Dollar General’s support of the military and veterans includes adopting the Gallatin unit of the 278th Armored Calvary Regiment of the Tennessee National Guard, assembling care packages to deployed employees and their deployed immediate family members and offering Veteran’s Day discounts to active military veterans and their families. Dollar General has signed the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve statement.

Co-recipients of the 2011 Distinguished Service Award include Lt. Gen. Jack Stultz, commanding general of the Army Reserve Command, William P. Hite, General President of the United Association of Plumbers, Pipe Fitters, Welders and HVACR Technicians and Sesame Street.
