Amazon and Whole Foods to cut prices

Shares of Costco Wholesale Corp. (Nasdaq: COST) plummeted $8.04 to close at $151.33, The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) dropped $1.86 to close at $21.10, Sprouts Farmers Market Inc. (Nasdaq: SFM) fell $1.65 to close at $22.10, Supervalu Inc. (NYSE: SVU) lost $1.44 to close at $20.39 and Target (NYSE: TGT) tumbled $2.25 to close at $54.21 after Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) and Whole Foods Market Inc. (Nasdaq: WFM) announced that they will cut the prices on many grocery items such as avocados, bananas and kale beginning on Monday. Shares of Amazon plunged $5.55 to close at $952.45 while Whole Foods stock added 30 cents to close at $41.98.
