Marquis Who's Who Honors Leilani V. Lagman for Expertise in Cosmetic Science

UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / April 2, 2026 / Marquis Who's Who honors Leilani V. Lagman for expertise in cosmetic science. Cosmetic companies must meet regulatory standards and consumer expectations by substantiating product claims with credible scientific data. As a principal scientist at Shiseido Americas, Ms. Lagman manages clinical, consumer and claims testing that supports major product launches across global brands. Throughout her career, she has made impactful contributions to clinical research, documentation and testing protocols.

Scientific Integrity in Beauty

The cosmetics sector has seen heightened scrutiny regarding product claims, ingredient safety and data reliability. Companies must balance marketing goals with compliance and scientific integrity. Ms. Lagman has built a 26-year career addressing these concerns by applying scientific rigor to cosmetic research and product testing.

Since 2019, Ms. Lagman has served as a principal scientist at Shiseido Americas. In this role, she supports product launches for brands such as Drunk Elephant and NARS. Her responsibilities include documenting instrumentation and moisturization claims. She also maintains a panelist database and stays current with emerging testing methods. In addition, she oversees vendor quality control and develops study designs that produce reliable, reproducible results.

By applying core scientific principles to clinical research, Ms. Lagman supports data-driven decisions that strengthen consumer trust. As a result, she has garnered professional recognition. Her achievements include receiving Shiseido Group's President's Award in 2024 and being a three-time nominee of Shiseido Americas' Circle of Trust Award in 2023, July 2024 and August 2024. The award recognizes employees who exemplify the company's values, such as accountability, collaboration and integrity.

Leadership Growth Across Global Beauty Brands

"I've had the pleasure of working for several top global leaders in the cosmetics market [in the consumer industry]," Ms. Lagman says. However, she did not initially plan to enter the cosmetics sector. Her parents encouraged her to pursue engineering or medicine. After graduating from Hoboken High School in 1994, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Rutgers University in 1999.

In 1999, an internship with a multinational consumer products company redirected Ms. Lagman's career trajectory. She spent two years interning with Colgate-Palmolive. During her tenure, she gained hands-on experience in research methods and data analysis. While there, she examined dental and hard surface care products. She later advanced to a full-time position at Colgate-Palmolive, followed by roles at Revlon and L'Oréal Groupe before joining Shiseido Americas.

As a middle manager, Ms. Lagman mentors junior employees. "I try to incorporate what I loved about each company into my approach, which my colleagues appreciate," she says. Additionally, she encourages young aspirants to work for companies whose values align with theirs, especially regarding the treatment of others and environmental care.

Immigrant Roots and Family Values

Ms. Lagman attributes much of her success to her immigrant grandmother. "She became a seamstress for a local factory in Hoboken, New Jersey," Ms. Lagman says. "Somehow, she was able to buy an apartment building there, which is now a desirable location." Meanwhile, she raised seven children and later brought family members from the Philippines to the United States.

Her grandmother's resilience, faith and commitment to family left a lasting impact on Ms. Lagman's worldview. Outside her professional work, she has volunteered with Clark Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center and participates in Sandy Hook Beach cleanups. She is also a member of the New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists.

Inspiration for the Next Generation

In the next five to 10 years, Ms. Lagman plans to continue advancing her career while dedicating time to family, travel and personal growth. She hopes her work empowers young women and minorities, including her own 13-year-old daughter. "I want to be an inspiration for a teenage girl or minority child who may not have much financial means but aspires to fulfill the American dream for themselves," Ms. Lagman says.

Through disciplined research practices, Ms. Lagman has sustained a dedication to scientific excellence in the cosmetics industry. "I quickly figure out what works and what doesn't, and I focus on applying those learnings to benefit my life, work and relationships," she says. "So far, that approach has worked for me."
