Apple (AAPL) just posted its best quarter in company history. Now it's gearing up for what some analysts are calling one of the most significant product rollouts the iPhone maker has seen in over a decade.
This combination of record earnings and a loaded product pipeline is raising a simple question for investors: Is now the time to buy?
Apple's Record Quarter Sets the Stage for What's Next
Apple CEO Tim Cook didn't hold back on the company's January earnings call.
"We are reporting our best-ever quarter with $143.8 billion in revenue, up 16% from a year ago," Cook said.
- iPhone alone brought in $85.3 billion, a 23% year-over-year (YoY) jump, with all-time revenue records set in the U.S., Greater China, Latin America, Western Europe, and India.
- The numbers are impressive and signal broad, global momentum at a time when many tech companies are navigating a more uneven demand environment.
- Services revenue also hit an all-time record of $30 billion, up 14% YoY, while earnings per share climbed 19% to $2.84.
- Operating cash flow reached $53.9 billion, also an all-time record.
Cook pointed out that Apple's installed base has now crossed 2.5 billion active devices, another record. That massive base gives the company a powerful runway for services growth and new product adoption going forward.
Analysts are Calling This a “Lucrative” Product Moment
Apple recently unveiled the iPhone 17e, a refreshed iPad Air, new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models, updated Studio Displays, and AirPods Max 2.
Taken together, Melius Research described this lineup as one of the most lucrative product launches the company has seen since the debut of large-screen iPhones back in 2014, according to a Seeking Alpha report.
Melius reiterated its “Buy” rating on AAPL stock, citing the company's strong free cash flow and the new product wave as drivers of a potential stock price recovery. That's a notable endorsement, especially with AAPL stock down roughly 14% from all-time highs, even as it has gained about 13% over the past 12 months.
Cook also confirmed that Apple is collaborating with Google (GOOG) (GOOGL) to develop the next generation of Apple Foundation Models, the AI technology that will power a more personalized version of Siri expected later this year. The partnership adds another dimension to Apple's artificial intelligence story, which has already attracted strong customer interest since launch.
"The majority of users on enabled iPhones are actively leveraging the power of Apple Intelligence," Cook said, describing the response as extraordinary.
The Bear Case for AAPL Stock
Apple flagged supply constraints heading into the March quarter, driven by limited capacity on the advanced 3-nanometer chip nodes used to produce its latest system-on-a-chip. With iPhone demand surging 23%, the company exited the December quarter with lean channel inventory and is now, as Cook put it, "in a supply chase mode."
Memory pricing is also rising. While CFO Kevan Parekh said memory had a minimal impact on first-quarter gross margins, he warned it would be a bigger headwind in the current quarter. Apple guided March-quarter gross margins between 48% and 49%.
On top of that, tariff uncertainty remains a wild card. Apple outlined a $1.4 billion tariff impact for the December quarter and noted that its March guidance assumes current global tariff rates hold.
Still, Apple expects total revenue to grow 13% to 16% YoY in the March quarter: strong guidance by any measure.
What Is the AAPL Stock Price Target?
Out of the 42 analysts covering AAPL stock, 22 recommend “Strong Buy,” three recommend “Moderate Buy,” 16 recommend “Hold,” and one recommends “Strong Sell.” The average AAPL stock price target is $295.76, above the current price of about $247.
As Apple approaches its 50th anniversary, the company sits at an unusual intersection: record fundamentals, a refreshed product lineup, and an emerging artificial intelligence platform still in its early innings.
