Both credit unions are financially healthy and well-positioned for the future. This merger of peers is a strategic decision by two strong organizations to bring together complementary resources and create a combined credit union with approximately $671 million in assets, serving more than 32,000 members through eight locations across Montana and Colorado.

For Sky Federal Credit Union, the proposed partnership represents an opportunity to build on more than 90 years of serving Montana while preserving the local relationships, personalized service, and community commitment that have long defined Sky FCU.

Sky FCU and On Tap CU serve distinct geographic markets with no overlapping branch locations, and no branch closures are planned as part of the merger. Members would continue to be served by familiar local teams who know their communities and understand their financial needs. The organizations share a strong alignment in cooperative values, culture, and a belief that members and communities come first.

“For more than 90 years, Sky Federal Credit Union has been focused on serving our communities and helping our members thrive,” said Dr. Daisy Romo, CEO of Sky Federal Credit Union. “As we looked toward Sky’s future, it was important that any partnership honor who we are, where we come from, and the relationships we have built throughout Montana. We found that same commitment to people and community at On Tap. This partnership gives us an opportunity to preserve what makes Sky special while building additional strength and resources for generations of members still to come.”

Together, the organizations would have greater capacity to invest in digital banking, fraud prevention, cybersecurity, financial products and services, employee development, and community partnerships, creating additional opportunities for members of both credit unions while preserving the personalized service they value. The merger would also position the credit unions to continue investing in financial education, charitable giving, and local initiatives throughout Montana and Colorado

“This opportunity began with people and culture,” said Tracie Wilcox, President and CEO of On Tap Credit Union. “What stood out most wasn’t what made our organizations different, but how much felt familiar. We share deep roots in our communities, a commitment to our members, and a belief that relationships come first. That alignment gave us confidence that together we can create even more opportunities for the members, employees, and communities we serve.”

Sky Federal Credit Union and On Tap Credit Union bring more than 160 years of combined experience serving members and communities. The partnership is intended to honor those histories while creating a stronger foundation for the future.

“This is about building on Sky’s legacy, not leaving it behind,” Romo added. “Our members, employees, and Montana communities are at the heart of this decision. We are excited about the opportunity to bring together two organizations that believe deeply in the credit union philosophy and in the power of local relationships.”

The proposed merger remains subject to regulatory approval and a vote of Sky FCU members. Until the merger process is complete, Sky Federal Credit Union and On Tap Credit Union will continue operating as separate credit unions.

Additional information, including frequently asked questions and updates throughout the process, will be available to members.
