New Dapr Workflows integration gives n8n developers automatic crash recovery and duplicate-safe side effects with zero code changes
Diagrid, developer of the world's most reliable foundation for mission-critical workflows and autonomous AI agents and the company behind the Distributed Application Runtime (Dapr), today announced an integration that brings durable execution to n8n workflows. Built on Dapr Workflows, the integration lets any n8n workflow recover from failure on its own and continue from the exact node where it stopped, with no changes to the workflow itself. The integration is available now.
n8n has become a go-to tool for connecting APIs, data and AI agents into working automations. As teams push those automations into production, the limit is reliability. Today, when an n8n worker crashes or Kubernetes reschedules a pod mid-run, the workflow starts over from the beginning. That can mean calling an AI model a second time, writing duplicate records to a CRM, or sending the same email to a customer twice. For agentic workflows that run for minutes, or pause for days waiting on a human approval, a restart wastes tokens and puts external systems at risk.
The Diagrid integration runs underneath n8n's execution engine. Each node executes as a durable Dapr Workflow activity, and Dapr records progress as every node completes. If a process dies on node eight of a 10-node workflow, nodes one through seven stay completed and execution picks up at node eight. Developers keep building in the n8n editor, and Dapr makes sure the work finishes.
"n8n made it easy for almost anyone to build an automation, but the hard part has always been what happens when the infrastructure fails halfway through a run," said Yaron Schneider, co-founder and CTO of Diagrid and chair of the Agentic AI Foundation Workflows Working Group. "Developers shouldn't have to give up a tool they like to get top-level reliability. With this integration, completed steps stay completed, side effects don't repeat, and nobody needs to rewrite a workflow to get there. Simply put: the work keeps going."
The integration benefits developers in several ways, including:
- Resume From the Point of Failure: Workflows continue from the last completed node after a crash, redeploy or pod eviction. No worker has to stay alive for the full life of a workflow.
- Zero Code Changes: The integration loads when n8n starts through a Node.js runtime setting. The editor, nodes, expressions, credentials and triggers all work as they do today.
- Protection Against Duplicate Side Effects: An idempotency ledger ties each node execution to a stable identity, so a payment, CRM update or notification that already succeeded doesn't run again during recovery. Downstream services that accept idempotency keys, such as payment providers, can receive the same identity.
- Built for Long-Running AI Workflows: Agent calls, tool calls and human approval steps that take minutes, hours or days survive infrastructure failures without restarting the agent loop.
- Works Alongside Queue Mode: n8n's queue mode decides which worker runs a job. Dapr preserves the execution if that worker goes down mid-job.
The n8n integration extends Diagrid's approach of adding durable execution beneath the frameworks developers already use. Diagrid Catalyst provides agentic durable execution for agent frameworks including LangGraph, Microsoft Agent Framework, Google Agent Development Kit, CrewAI and the OpenAI Agents SDK.

About Diagrid
Diagrid helps enterprises build reliable and secure distributed systems and AI agents. Founded by the creators of the open-source Distributed Application Runtime (Dapr), Diagrid provides the agentic infrastructure layer that delivers durable execution, secure service‑to‑service communication, AI orchestration, and cryptographic trust for modern cloud‑native and AI applications. Its flagship product, Diagrid Catalyst, combines durable workflows with advanced identity, access controls, and zero‑trust style governance so teams can run long‑lived, mission‑critical agent workloads without losing state or compromising security. Diagrid is a leading maintainer of Dapr within the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) and a member of the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF).
Organizations in highly regulated sectors such as financial services and healthcare use Diagrid to orchestrate multi‑agent workflows, enforce fine‑grained data access, and cryptographically attest which agents did what and when across their infrastructure. Learn more at https://www.diagrid.io/.
