Scottsdale Life Plan Community leader Tom Winkelman recognized for driving statewide senior living advocacy, mentorship and collaboration

Honored for a career dedicated to raising standards for aging services, Westminster Village CEO Tom Winkelman earned the inaugural Steward of Impact Award from Arizona LeadingAge. The association, comprised of more than 50 nonprofit senior housing and health organizations, works across the care continuum to strengthen advocacy and resources for more than 12,000 older Arizonans.

The award is a testament to Winkleman’s vital role in furthering Arizona LeadingAge’s mission to advance industry education, collaboration and policies that improve seniors’ well-being without creating unnecessary barriers for the organizations serving them.

Winkelman became board president during a pivotal leadership transition for the association, providing the continuity needed to move the association forward. Through eight years of board service, he helped guide strategic planning, operational improvements and revenue growth while expanding member programming.

“This recognition reflects the momentum we’ve built in bringing the senior living sector together to shape a stronger future for aging services, and I’m grateful to have contributed to it,” Winkelman said. “The Westminster Village team enabled me to serve Arizona LeadingAge with focus and intention, and the association’s members and board helped turn our shared purpose into tangible progress.”

Winkelman’s leadership approach reflects the natural alignment between Arizona LeadingAge’s priorities and Westminster Village’s nonprofit model. A member community, Westminster Village participates in policy engagement, mentorship and best-practice sharing while reinvesting resources into resident services and amenities.

Winkelman has led Westminster Village since 2018, emphasizing talent development, wellness programs and industrywide growth. The retirement community is grounded in a culture of belonging and mutual support, which he credits as central to the leadership recognized through this award.
