NAM (National Arbitration and Mediation) is proud to announce that the Honorable Lewis J. Lubell (Ret.), former Justice of the New York State Supreme Court, Westchester County, has joined NAM's award-winning panel of neutrals. He is available to arbitrate and mediate cases throughout New York.
Judge Lubell brings over two decades of distinguished judicial experience to NAM, having presided over complex civil, matrimonial, medical malpractice, commercial, construction, insurance, mass tort, toxic tort, product liability, and personal injury matters throughout New York's 9th Judicial District. Elected to the Supreme Court in 2005 and seated in January 2006, he served in assignments spanning Orange, Putnam, Duchess, Rockland, and Westchester Counties, presiding over trials, mediations, arbitrations, and settlement conferences.
In 2011, Judge Lubell was appointed Reserve Civil Trial Judge for the Supreme Court in the 9th Judicial District, presiding over complex civil trials in Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester Counties. He was later appointed Supervising Judge for Matrimonial Matters for the 9th Judicial District in 2017, and in 2021 was named Districtwide Coordinator for General Civil Matters, a role in which he oversaw the Trial Assignment Part and handled mediations, arbitrations, and complex civil trials districtwide. In August 2025, Justice Lubell was appointed Supervising Judge of the Westchester County Settlement Part where he conducted settlement conferences, carrier settlement days, mediations, and bench trials until his retirement from the bench at the end of July.
Before joining the bench, Judge Lubell served as Acting Village Justice for the Village of Ardsley and practiced as a trial attorney, litigating complex medical and dental malpractice, product liability, aviation disaster, negligence, insurance, and mass tort matters. Prior to entering the legal profession, he built an extensive business career in sales and senior-level corporate management, giving him a practical understanding of the business, financial, and operational considerations that often drive the resolution of commercial disputes.
"Judge Lubell's breadth of judicial experience across civil, matrimonial, and complex tort matters, combined with his background in business and corporate management, makes him an outstanding addition to NAM," said Mark Haddad, CEO of NAM. "His deep familiarity with the 9th Judicial District and his reputation for fair, efficient case management align perfectly with NAM's commitment to delivering top-tier ADR services."
"I am honored to join NAM and look forward to bringing my judicial experience to the alternative dispute resolution process," said Judge Lubell. "Having presided over a wide range of civil, matrimonial, and complex tort matters, I understand the importance of a fair, efficient, and thoughtful forum for resolving disputes outside the courtroom."
A Fellow of the Advanced Science and Technology Adjudication Resource Center and the National Courts and Science Institute, Judge Lubell has received advanced scientific training designed for members of the judiciary and has lectured at continuing legal education programs and judicial training courses throughout his career.
