Steve Mariotti, Best-Selling Author, Founder of the Global Nonprofit Network For Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), and CEO of Atlas Learning was recently selected as Man of the Year for 2024 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). His expertise and extraordinary talents have afforded him this distinction.
While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only 1 male professional is selected as Man of the Year. The Man of the Year Award signifies IAOTP’s most outstanding male member who has gone above and beyond excellence not only in his field but has demonstrated success professionally, personally and has been a leader in his community. This man has made an impact on people’s lives around the world and for 2024 IAOTP is proud to give this award to Mr. Steve Mariotti.
Mr. Steve Mariotti was just recently announced as Man of the Year at IAOTP’s 2024 at the Annual Awards Gala which was held at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. He is also a prestigious member of the exclusive Hall of Fame club.
Mr. Mariotti received this honor because his career has touched practically every business sector. Through his organization NFTE and the millions of copies of his books sold, he has taught millions about entrepreneurship and business ownership. He began as the company's youngest senior analyst before directing a team in Ford's International Finance Department that established methods that are still in use today to reduce the company's borrowing costs and save over $2 million per year. Mr. Mariotti also collaborated with famed civil rights leader and social activist Leon Sullivan to design elements of Ford's inaugural anti-apartheid strategy in 1979. Mr. Mariotti then departed Ford Motor Company to launch Mason Import/Export Services in New York City. Mr. Mariotti felt driven to educate and help urban youngsters, so he sold his business and became a special education teacher in some of New York City's most challenging communities, including Bedford-Stuyvesant, the South Bronx, and the Lower East Side.
Mr. Mariotti founded the South Bronx Entrepreneurial Education Project, Inc. in 1987 in a South Bronx classroom dedicated to high school dropouts, which subsequently became the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, a charity popularly known as NFTE and pronounced (Nifty). NFTE aims to teach low-income adolescents the fundamentals of entrepreneurship and wealth development so they can find their road to success. Mr. Mariotti's textbooks and curriculum are used in 22 states and 12 countries, and NFTE has served over 1,000,000 students worldwide with entrepreneurship education. Mr. Mariotti's curriculum has been used to train over 12,000 teachers around the world.
Mr. Mariotti and Mr. Joseph Robinson co-founded Inmates Teaching Business and Mentorship (ITEM) in 1995 after teaching math and entrepreneurship at Rikers Island, New York City's main jailing facility and one of the largest jails in America. ITEM is a prison-based program that teaches inmates how to educate their children and fellow offenders on the fundamentals of company ownership. This concept was quickly replicated in other jails and has since become a national model.
Mr. Mariotti is a sought-after speaker, lecturer, and regular contributor to the Huffington Post. He has published numerous articles and has co-authored / authored 43 books and manuals. Steve has served as a motivational coach to empower entrepreneurs worldwide. He has spoken as an entrepreneurship expert at the Aspen Ideas Festival, Harvard, Columbia, Yale, Brown, Berkeley, Georgetown, Baylor, and Babson College. Mr. Mariotti has also traveled to Southeast Asia as a US State Department guest to share his entrepreneurial education with emerging economies. Throughout his illustrious career, Mr. Mariotti has received several awards, accolades and has been recognized globally for his remarkable leadership and commitment to the profession. As an IAOTP member, Mr. Mariotti was recognized numerous times. In 2022 he was named Top Author of the Year and was inducted into the prestigious IAOTP Hall of Fame. He also appeared on the Planet Hollywood Billboard on the Las Vegas Strip, and graced the cover of TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine. In 2020, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award, was selected as Top Global Education Social Entrepreneur of the Decade and the Top Global Social Entrepreneur of the Year. In 2019, he was honored at the Bellagio Hotel for being named Top Entrepreneur of the Year by the International Association of Top Professionals and featured on the renowned Reuters Building in Times Square. This year Mr. Mariotti will be interviewed for an exclusive interview on TIP Radio. He has also received the Bernard A. Goldhirsh Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award, the United States Department of Commerce's National Director's Entrepreneurship Award, the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, the ACE/Currie Foundation's Humanitarian Venture Award, the Salvatori Award, and the Society of Entrepreneurial Educators' (SEE) first award for Outstanding Educator. Mr. Mariotti has been included in numerous editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Finance and Business, and Who's Who in the World.
Looking back, Mr. Mariotti credits his success to his education, mentors he met along the way, and a desire to serve others. He finds his work very rewarding and hopes others will seek a career as a teacher in low-income regions. In his spare time, Steve enjoys chess, hiking, collecting rare books, and attending seminars at Princeton's Institute for Advanced Studies.
