SuperCritical Materials Appoints Former Commonwealth Fusion and NextEra Nuclear CFO Mitchell P. Goldstein to Board of Directors

AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 09, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- SuperCritical Materials Corp (“SuperCritical Materials” or “SUPC”) announced today that Mitchell P. Goldstein has joined its Board of Directors, where he will chair both the Audit and Compensation Committees. SuperCritical Materials is advancing the engineering and commercialization of technology designed to recover uranium from seawater, with the goal of building an entirely new category of nuclear fuel infrastructure.

Goldstein, currently Chief Financial Officer of Takkion, the leading independent services provider to the renewable energy industry, joins the Board as the company begins initial development of its seawater extraction process, a transition that requires the same kind of capital discipline he applied managing the finances of one of the country's largest nuclear fleets. His time inside an operating utility gives the Board a firsthand view of nuclear infrastructure, financial controls and capital allocation.

The appointment comes as growing electricity demand, energy security concerns, and advanced reactor deployment are increasing attention on the nuclear fuel supply chain. SuperCritical aims to unlock a resource model based on uranium dissolved in seawater, an enormous, globally distributed resource that years of U.S. government research have proven can be captured using selective adsorbent materials.

As Audit Committee Chair, Goldstein will lead Board oversight on financial reporting, internal controls, and risk management. As Compensation Committee chair, he will oversee executive pay and related governance matters.

Goldstein has spent over 30 years as financial and strategy leader for a range of businesses including two publicly traded companies, one of which he took public in a spinoff transaction. He spent 10 years at NextEra Energy and its Florida Power & Light (FPL) subsidiary, including as Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer for the Nuclear Fleet, where he had financial responsibility for NextEra's nuclear operations, including FPL's nuclear generating units. He oversaw financial planning, budgeting and forecasting, along with efforts to improve safety, reliability and efficiency across the fleet.

At Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS), Mitch served as CFO during a pivotal period of rapid growth and early commercialization, joining shortly before the company’s $1.8 billion Series B financing and helping scale the organization from approximately 150 to more than 1,000 employees. His experience navigating the financing, organizational scaling, project management and commercialization challenges of a pre-revenue fusion technology company is directly applicable to SuperCritical Materials, as it advances its nuclear fuel technology toward industrial-scale deployment.
