DESCRIPTION:
When a tidal wave left massive flooding and devastation in the western region of Germany, Whirlpool Corporation and its brand Bauknecht quickly teamed with the German Red Cross (DRK) to aid affected communities. Several trucks transported the first 120 dryers, 200 washing machines and 280 fridge-freezers to emergency shelters supporting hundreds of towns and villages in North Rhine-Westphalia. An additional four trucks brought appliances to the central warehouse of the Red Cross for Baden-Württemberg in Kirchheim/Teck to be distributed to individual households and families. A total of 600 appliances were donated.
“We are deeply affected by the shocking images and would like to do our part to improve the difficult situation of people who have lost or had to leave their homes, at least as far as we can,” said Till Bickelmann, Managing Director of Bauknecht Hausgeräte GmbH and Head of Marketing Northern Europe. “Together with the DRK, we determined the need to supply the emergency shelters with the necessary equipment quickly and in a targeted manner.”
“The full extent of the disaster is only now becoming apparent during the clean-up work, and it makes us at Bauknecht stunned. We want to help quickly, and, together with other national companies, we have decided to support Whirlpool Corporation’s vision to improve life at home in tangible ways,” said Benjamin Federle, Managing Director and Senior Manager Business HR Northern Europe. “Of course, many of our employees would also like to get personally involved with those affected. We are planning to carry out a fundraising campaign and to double the resulting sum on the part of Whirlpool and to allow the flood victims to benefit.”
