Every year, thousands of military retirees turn 65 and have no idea they're about to lose their TRICARE coverage. Not because they did anything wrong — but because nobody told them the rules.
UnbiasedMedicareAdvisor.com has started offering one-on-one consultations specifically for TRICARE beneficiaries approaching the Medicare transition.
"I talk to retirees all the time who had no clue they needed to sign up for Medicare Part B," said Chad Baar, an unbiased Medicare advisor. "They assumed TRICARE would just keep covering them. Then they find out the hard way that it doesn't work like that."
Here's the issue: When a military retiree turns 65, TRICARE Prime and TRICARE Select stop. The only option left is TRICARE For Life, which requires enrollment in Medicare Parts A and B. Miss that enrollment window, and you could end up with no coverage at all — plus late-enrollment penalties that last for life
UnbiasedMedicareAdvisor.com charges a flat fee for consultations rather than earning commissions from insurance sales. That means the advice isn't tied to pushing a particular plan.
"A lot of these retirees served 20-plus years and earned their benefits," Chad Baar said. "They shouldn't have to guess whether the person giving them advice is trying to help or just trying to make a sale."
Consultations are available by phone or video for clients anywhere in the U.S.
