Larchmont Mercantile Welcomes Holey Grail Donuts, Skin Laundry, and Other Retailers to Its Revitalized Storefronts

The early 20th century centerpiece of the Larchmont Village Shopping District has been reimagined and resurrected by Gensler

Larchmont Mercantile, the distinctive centerpiece of the Larchmont Village Shopping District, announces the signing of Holey Grail Donuts and Skin Laundry among the first tenants to join the revitalized storefronts. Curated by placemaking experts Christina Development Corporation (“Christina”), and reimagined by global architecture firm Gensler, Larchmont Mercantile will soon become the premier destination for experiential shopping and dining in famed Hancock Park. Located at 124 ½ -148 North Larchmont Boulevard, the project boasts 14 contiguous retail boutiques, spanning more than 17,000 square feet of commercial space. Financing was provided by CalPrivate Bank; repair and restoration work was performed by locally based general contractor Del Amo Construction.

“Larchmont Mercantile represents what can be achieved by re-imagining what already was an extraordinary location through distinctive and sensitive architecture, design, and placemaking prowess,” said Lawrence N. Taylor, Founder and Chairman of Christina. “Our repair and adaptive restoration transformed the dated project into an inclusive, architecturally significant, and contemporary centerpiece on one of the most desirable, pedestrian-oriented streets in Los Angeles. Larchmont Mercantile is ideally positioned to capitalize on the evolving demands of both consumers and retailers while staying true to fundamentals that have historically contributed to the vibrancy of the Larchmont Village Shopping District.”

The 20th century landmark property had long been undermaintained and in need of significant repairs. Upon its acquisition, Christina commissioned Gensler to reimagine and resurrect the iconic property that has been the cornerstone of Larchmont Village for 100 years.

Staying within the existing envelope and configuration, Gensler designed four unique architectural façades generating a cohesive vision to the built environment. The concept maximizes the retail storefront openings by breaking up the long unassuming exterior into distinct “buildings,” reviving the property’s original character with a modern reinterpretation. With oversized windows, high ceilings, and clear glass, the architecture brings new life to the street level.

“Larchmont Mercantile will be a catalyst for the shopping district, raising the bar for innovative merchants and retail brands, and setting a new contemporary design language for the area,” added Duncan Paterson, Principal at Gensler. “Our goal was to put an emphasis back on the importance of the building, which has been a pillar in the community for a century.”

Christening the launch of Larchmont Mercantile is Holey Grail Donuts, a widely popular Hawaiian-based donut brand known for its taro-based donuts. The company first gained recognition as a food truck in Kauai, quickly earning a cult-like following and expanding its presence across Hawaii. Larchmont Mercantile will be one of the brand’s first locations in Los Angeles, with another store anticipated to open in Santa Monica early next year. Also joining the community will be Skin Laundry, a leading skincare brand offering various treatments for men and women, as well as other retailers and merchants to be announced.

The Larchmont Village Shopping District is long recognized as a gem in Los Angeles. As one of the only, and perhaps original, pedestrian-friendly retail streets in the city, it’s a classic intersection of contemporary trend-setting and homegrown sincerity.

“Located in the heart of Hancock Park, this retail destination perfectly caters to those who love to be outdoors and seek community engagement,” said Zachary Card of CBRE, who is handling the leasing efforts and tenant curation along with Erik Krasney. “The Larchmont Village Shopping District has been incredibly resilient due to its irreplaceable location, organic streetscape, and Main Street charm.”

Other Larchmont Village merchants include the newly opened Great White restaurant, Buck Mason, Go Get Em Tiger, Diptyque Paris, Pressed Juicery, Sweetfin Poke, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream, Rothy’s, Salt & Straw, Malin + Goetz, Kreation, The Shade Store, Groundwork Coffee, Larchmont Wine & Cheese, and many more.
