Gilbert, Ariz. - Oct. 31, 2023 - Douglas A. Berg today announced the release of “Knobby,” the first volume in his urban fantasy book series “The Chronicles of Sadie Perkins.” The coming-of-age urban fantasy is now available in paperback at Amazon, Barnes & Noble and many independent bookstores. When 14-year-old Sadie Grace Perkins falls asleep on a bench at the McKinley Street Zoo in her quiet hometown of Goshen, Arizona, she awakens to find her middle-American life abruptly turned upside-down and her fate inextricably linked with that of another adolescent telepath ̶ a male giraffe named Knobby. Entangled in the politics and environmental issues of our times, Sadie and her human and animal companions embark on an exciting, action-filled quest to save the planet.
Doug’s inspiration comes from the works of Julian Jaynes in which the Princeton professor argues that humans communicated telepathically until about 3,000 years ago.
“The works of Julian Jaynes on human consciousness and our failure to address climate change have inspired me to create this fantasy series,” said Douglas A. Berg, author. “I’m optimistic that our children will refuse to accept the status quo and will embrace the drastic actions required to save our planet.”
When he began this series, Doug was also inspired by his then teenage daughter Samantha, now an artist, who designed the cover of the book. Doug’s wife Luz Berg, a marketing executive, helped edit the story.
Slated for publication in early 2024, Book II of the series, titled “QuesTerra,” follows Sadie’s daring quest and her meeting with the mysterious ‘Gaea’ ̶ first introduced in Book I.
