The observations come weeks after four members of an organised burglary gang were sentenced at Chester Crown Court in April 2026 after carrying out at least 59 burglaries across the UK. According to reporting by Property Industry Eye on 15 April 2026 and information released by Cheshire Police, the group used Google and Rightmove to identify wealthy homes, study publicly available floorplans, and plan access routes before targeting properties. The offenders reportedly entered homes through upper-floor windows using ladders to avoid ground-floor alarm systems and stole approximately £1 million worth of valuables.
The sentencing judge stated that the gang had taken away victims’ sense of security in their own homes.
The case has drawn wider attention to the reconnaissance phase that often precedes organised residential burglary activity.
