University of Tennessee MBA graduate, Green Beret, Army Reserve Colonel, and veteran-owned business leader completes his second master's degree while serving East Tennessee through VETS Knoxville.
Christopher Ruel, owner of VETS Junk Removal and Dumpsters Knoxville https://vetseasytrash.com/service-areas/knoxville-tn/, has graduated from the U.S. Army War College with a Master of Strategic Studies degree, marking the completion of his second master's degree while continuing 27 years of distinguished military service as a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve.
Ruel earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Tennessee in 2015 and worked across several industries before launching VETS Knoxville in September 2025. He now combines military leadership, business expertise, and entrepreneurial experience to provide professional junk removal in Knoxville TN, dumpster rental in Knoxville TN, and full-service waste removal to homeowners, businesses, and multifamily communities throughout East Tennessee.
A career defined by service
Chris's approach to business is shaped by nearly three decades of military service. He began his combat service with the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment of the Tennessee Army National Guard during his first deployment to Iraq. After earning his Green Beret, he served 12 years on active duty with the U.S. Army's 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), deploying five more times in support of the Global War on Terror.
His military decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with "V" Device for valor, the Purple Heart, two additional Bronze Star Medals, and the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. His military qualifications and badges include the Combat Infantryman Badge, Special Forces Tab, Combat Diver Supervisor Badge, and Parachutist Badge.
Today, Colonel Ruel continues his military service in the U.S. Army Reserve while building a veteran-owned business in Knoxville dedicated to helping residential and commercial customers simplify cleanouts, renovations, moves, property turnovers, and waste removal projects across the greater Knoxville area.
When asked about leadership, Ruel said: "Leadership is about service, accountability, and helping people solve problems. Whether serving our nation in uniform or helping customers, those principles remain the same."
Service beyond the uniform
Beyond his military and business accomplishments, Ruel serves as Chairman of the Board for the Rev. Carl G. Vouros Memorial Fund, which provides more than $1 million annually in grants supporting education, athletics, and community health initiatives.
Chris runs VETS Knoxville alongside his wife, Rachel, and is the proud father of two boys and two French Bulldogs. Founded in September 2025, VETS Junk Removal Knoxville reflects Chris's commitment to family, service, and leadership by providing residential and commercial junk removal, dumpster rentals, bulk trash pickups, eviction cleanouts, property cleanouts, and ongoing support services for homeowners, businesses, property managers, and multifamily communities throughout Knoxville, Farragut, Maryville, Oak Ridge, and surrounding East Tennessee communities.

Carrying Knoxville's dumpster legacy forward
Knoxville holds a unique place in waste management history as the birthplace of the modern dumpster. Local industrialist George Dempster invented and patented the original Dempster Dumpster in Knoxville in 1935, first deploying the now-ubiquitous container publicly along downtown's Gay Street in November 1936. Knoxville became the first municipality to adopt the technology citywide in 1937. Through VETS Knoxville, Ruel proudly carries that legacy forward by providing dependable junk removal and dumpster rental services throughout the region.
The Master of Strategic Studies degree represents another milestone in a career dedicated to leadership, service, and making a positive impact, whether in uniform, in business, or in the East Tennessee community.
