Humans designed the locomotive, reorganised industries around it and created new businesses, jobs and possibilities because of it. Human ingenuity has now created increasingly capable intelligent systems that people can work with.
The article argues that better tools do not necessarily diminish human value. Instead, technology can change the tasks people perform, the skills they need and what becomes possible.
“A writer is more than someone who produces sentences. A teacher is more than someone who supplies information. A researcher is more than someone who finds facts,” the essay observes.
AI may become extraordinarily capable at individual tasks within those professions without necessarily eliminating the person. The job itself can change.
