The development follows growing evidence that AI is influencing purchasing behaviour. Razorfish research published in 2026 found that 94% of U.S. AI users surveyed would consider a brand they had never heard of if an AI assistant recommended it. More than half, 51%, reported already purchasing from a brand recommended by an AI assistant.
Research from Semrush also found significant AI influence among surveyed U.S. B2B professionals who use AI at work. Ninety-seven percent said AI had helped them discover new vendors, 92% said it had influenced their vendor shortlist and 83% said it had influenced their final vendor decision.
The shift creates a new measurement consideration for businesses that have traditionally relied on search rankings, website traffic and other established digital marketing metrics. Visibility in conventional search results does not necessarily indicate how often a company will appear in AI-generated responses.
