-- In a decisive blow against systemic banking errors, a federal jury has issued a $2,865,000 verdict against Horizon Bank, marking one of the most significant consumer rights victories in recent years. The verdict focuses on the bank’s failure to maintain reporting integrity, highlighting the severe consequences for institutions that ignore consumers' financial security.
The jury found Horizon Bank acted with willful disregard for the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). By continuously verifying and reporting a debt that a state court had already declared invalid, the bank demonstrated a pattern of negligence that the court found worthy of significant punitive and compensatory measures.
This multi-million dollar verdict addresses the bank's refusal to acknowledge legal rulings confirming that Fabian Huizar owed nothing following an improper vehicle repossession in 2018. Despite clear legal boundaries, the bank persisted in reporting the non-existent debt to credit bureaus, directly attacking the consumer's creditworthiness and financial future.
