AXIS Capital (AXS) Q4 Earnings: What To Expect

Global specialty insurer AXIS Capital Holdings Limited (NYSE: AXS) will be reporting earnings this Wednesday after the bell. Here’s what investors should know.

AXIS Capital met analysts’ revenue expectations last quarter, reporting revenues of $1.64 billion, up 4.1% year on year. It was a strong quarter for the company, with a beat of analysts’ EPS estimates and a solid beat of analysts’ book value per share estimates.

This quarter, analysts are expecting AXIS Capital’s revenue to grow 6.9% year on year to $1.69 billion, slowing from the 8.3% increase it recorded in the same quarter last year. Adjusted earnings are expected to come in at $3.12 per share.

Analysts covering the company have generally reconfirmed their estimates over the last 30 days, suggesting they anticipate the business to stay the course heading into earnings. AXIS Capital has missed Wall Street’s revenue estimates six times over the last two years.

Looking at AXIS Capital’s peers in the insurance segment, some have already reported their Q4 results, giving us a hint as to what we can expect. Travelers delivered year-on-year revenue growth of 3.2%, beating analysts’ expectations by 0.5%, and RLI reported revenues up 2.8%, in line with consensus estimates. Travelers traded up 3.3% following the results while RLI was down 3.1%.

AXIS Capital is down 5.5% during the same time and is heading into earnings with an average analyst price target of $120.91 (compared to the current share price of $103.11).
