What happened?

Shares of IT infrastructure services provider Kyndryl (NYSE: KD) jumped 26.5% in the morning session after the company reported second-quarter CY2026 financial results, highlighting strong bookings and expanding revenue in key growth areas.

According to a company press release, Kyndryl reported revenue of $3.62 billion, down 3.3% year on year, and an adjusted loss of $0.12 per share. While sales slightly missed Wall Street's estimate of $3.64 billion, adjusted earnings comfortably beat analysts' expectations of a $0.17 loss per share. Strong bookings and continuous revenue growth in Kyndryl Consult and hyperscaler services reinforced its annual outlook.

What is the market telling us

Kyndryl’s shares are very volatile and have had 29 moves greater than 5% over the last year. But moves this big are rare even for Kyndryl and indicate this news significantly impacted the market’s perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 21 days ago when the stock dropped 2.8% on the news that a broad pickup in energy expenses lifted September inflation to 3.7%, surpassing expectations and driving bond yields higher.

The hotter-than-anticipated inflation reading dampened market sentiment across Wall Street, weighing heavily on major benchmark indexes and pulling equities down from recent highs. When inflation accelerates, it often increases expectations that borrowing costs will remain elevated for an extended period to curb economic overheating.

Kyndryl is down 31.4% since the beginning of the year, and at $17.49 per share, it is trading 36.4% below its 52-week high of $27.50 from January 2026. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Kyndryl’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at only $662.96.
