HARWOOD, Texas - Texas Agridrone Services, LLC is helping ranchers, landowners, and livestock producers in Gonzales County reclaim pastures and improve grazing land through precision drone application for invasive brush control. Based in Harwood, the company provides aerial herbicide application for mesquite, huisache, prickly pear, pasture weeds, fence lines, and other invasive or encroaching vegetation using agricultural drone technology tailored for Texas ranchland.
For ranchers in South Texas, invasive brush is more than a nuisance. Texas A&M AgriLife notes that weed and brush infestations compete with desirable forage species for sunlight, moisture, and soil nutrients. When infestations become severe, carrying capacity declines, forage value is reduced, input costs increase, and profitability suffers. AgriLife also reports that for every pound of weeds produced, producers can lose two to five pounds of forage, with some weeds reducing forage production by as much as ten pounds per pound of weed growth.
Species such as huisache can be especially damaging on Texas rangeland. Texas A&M states that huisache is a tough, invasive tree that can quickly dominate disturbed landscapes, crowd out other plants, and create problems for landowners trying to produce forage for livestock. The agency reports that huisache has spread over 2.7 million acres of Texas rangeland, primarily in the Gulf Coast Prairies and South Texas Plains.
“Invasive brush is not just a visual problem — it is a productivity problem,” said Curtis Schramm, owner of Texas Agridrone Services. “A lot of my work is a fix to poor management practices from decades, even lifetimes of ranchers and landowners mismanaging property. Letting native brush and other invasive species come in and take over.”
Texas A&M AgriLife Extension rangeland specialist Stacy Hines, Ph.D., has also emphasized the practical impact brush encroachment has on working lands. “There are a lot of challenges for the ecosystems and the ranchers who depend on the land for their livelihoods,” Hines said. AgriLife added that encroaching plants such as mesquite continue to challenge landowners because they impact livestock production.
Texas Agridrone Services says its drone-based approach gives producers an efficient option for acreage that is too brushy for ground rigs, too small for conventional aerial application, or too difficult to treat because of rough terrain, tree cover, stumps, or utility lines. On its website, the company highlights its ability to cover hard-to-reach areas quickly and provide targeted application with minimal soil disturbance.
Schramm launched operations in 2025 and uses the XAG P150 agricultural drone for brushwork in irregular, obstacle-heavy pasture environments. In a recent XAG profile, Schramm described how drone application helps herbicide penetrate dense canopy and reach the target plant more effectively in overgrown pastures. The article also notes that in his first season, from August through December 2025, he completed 682 acres of brushwork.
“Producers need practical tools that match the realities of their land,” Schramm said. “Some pastures are too overgrown for traditional equipment, and some jobs are too small or too challenging for other spray options. With drone application, we can get into those hard-to-reach places and help landowners recover usable grazing acres.”
Texas Agridrone Services is fully licensed and insured and serves Gonzales County as its primary service area, with additional work across South and Central Texas. The company says its mission is to help Texas farmers and ranchers improve pasture performance, control invasive species, and restore productive land with precise aerial application.
