Thomas was a solar appointment setter and salesman by day and started silversmithing and leatherworking as a craft. He faithfully worked for two years doing solar, then wanted to make things that could be enjoyed and passed down to posterity. The phygital (physical and digital) idea came from watching the NFT space and realizing that provenance — knowing where something came from and who made it — was the missing piece in handmade goods.
Thomas combines physical craft at the highest level with a permanent digital record that travels with the bag forever. His work demonstrates that American handmade craft is alive. One person working alone, with their hands, can produce something that competes with the great luxury houses — not by copying them, but by doing something they can't: total transparency, total provenance, total story.
The biggest challenge was pricing. Thomas looked at the hours, the materials, and the quality of every component. It came down to moral integrity...to not underprice the work and cheapen it or overprice it with hype. Going through the process gave him confidence in the value of a product that outlives the buyer.
