Today, Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) President Tom Schatz issued the following statement in response to a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report examining the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI):

“The latest GAO report confirms what the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste has long warned: Since CMMI was established in Obamacare in 2010, it has squandered the taxpayer’s money on costly and disruptive experiments with Americans’ healthcare. As baseball season begins, GAO reported that CMMI is batting .057 (4 for 70) on its payment models and cannot prove it will ever generate savings or improve care quality.

“GAO’s report makes it crystal clear that it is time for Congress to reclaim healthcare policymaking authority, restore accountability, and stop wasting the taxpayers’ money on this failed vestige of the Affordable Care Act.”

The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste is the lobbying arm of Citizens Against Government Waste, the nation’s largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government.

“GAO’s report makes it crystal clear that it is time for Congress to reclaim healthcare policymaking authority, restore accountability, and stop wasting the taxpayers’ money on this failed vestige of the Affordable Care Act.”
