Tompkins Community Bank Announces John Huhtala as President of Central New York Market

Tompkins Community Bank (Tompkins) is pleased to announce the appointment of John Huhtala as president of its Central New York market. In this role, Huhtala will lead the company’s market presence, with a focus on strengthening client relationships, expanding business development efforts, deepening community engagement and supporting collaboration across the organization.

Huhtala brings more than 28 years of commercial banking, sales leadership and relationship management experience to the role. He currently serves at Tompkins as commercial banking regional manager in Ithaca, New York. Before joining Tompkins, he held leadership roles at JPMorgan Chase, HSBC and NBT Bank, where he developed broad expertise in commercial banking, business development, talent development and market leadership.

Huhtala holds an MBA from Binghamton University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Nazareth College. He is also deeply committed to community service, with board and leadership involvement that has included CenterState CEO, Syracuse Stage, On Point for College, and Vera House.

Known for his collaborative and relationship-driven approach, Huhtala will continue to maintain his primary office in Ithaca while helping strengthen Tompkins’ visibility and involvement across Central New York. His experience developing talent, cultivating executive relationships and encouraging unity across business lines positions him well to help lead the next chapter of growth in Central New York.
