What Happened?

Shares of online dating app Bumble (NASDAQ: BMBL) jumped 56.4% in the afternoon session after momentum carried through from the previous session as the company announced a definitive agreement to be acquired by Ithaca Holdings in an all-cash buyout valuing the company at $1.3 billion.

Under the terms of the agreement, Ithaca Holdings agreed to pay Class A common shareholders $6.05 per share in cash. The buyout offer represents an approximately 138% premium to Bumble's unaffected October 9, 2026, closing share price. A takeover premium reflects the additional amount an acquirer offers above the prevailing market price to obtain ownership of a company.

What Is The Market Telling Us

Bumble’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 43 moves greater than 5% over the last year. But moves this big are rare even for Bumble and indicate this news significantly impacted the market’s perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was about 22 hours ago when the stock gained 47.8% on the news that Reuters reported that the company is in advanced talks to be taken private by technology investment firm Ithaca Holdings at roughly a $1 billion valuation. In a dispatch carried by StreetInsider, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters that the proposed acquisition would take the Austin, Texas-based company private.

Bumble and Ithaca—a holding company founded by technology executives Ravi Gupta and John Hegeman—did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment.

Bumble is up 64% since the beginning of the year, and at $5.94 per share, it has set a new 52-week high. Despite the year-to-date gain, investors who bought $1,000 worth of Bumble’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at only $114.31.
