Prostaid Calgary announces the continuation of its monthly support meetings for men diagnosed with prostate cancer, with additional programs available for partners and caregivers.

-- With more than three decades of service to the Calgary community, Prostaid Calgary continues its monthly support meetings for men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The updated program includes specialized sessions for partners and caregivers, as well as a Warriors Group focused on advanced disease management and hormone refractory cases.

Prostaid Calgary's program has been developed to address the varied needs of those affected by prostate cancer. Meetings are always held on the third Wednesday of each month and feature medical guest speakers or healthcare professionals, providing attendees with time to share experiences, ask questions, and connect with others facing similar challenges. No advance registration is required to attend a meeting.
A study examining support group participation found that approximately 87% of men with prostate cancer do not attend support group meetings. Research from multiple institutions indicates that men who do participate often cite similar reasons for joining: to learn more about their diagnosis, share concerns, and compare their progress with other individuals facing the disease.
The organization explains that its expanded program aims to make support more accessible to a wider range of individuals. For those unable to attend in person, all meetings are archived online in video format for members to explore. The addition of informal gatherings for wives and caregivers reflects recognition that prostate cancer affects entire families, not just the diagnosed individual.
"Our objective is to assist and support patients, families and friends by informing, empathizing and reassuring men on their journey with prostate cancer," a spokesperson from Prostaid Calgary states. "By sharing our experiences with our own cancer we lift our spirits and strengthen our resolve to fight for quality of life and a cure."
